We have three major appeals underway to help the railway continue it’s recent progress.
Platform 2 Appeal: We are aiming to complete platform 2 at Bolton Abbey station, with an access footbridge and associated station buildings. We have already made progress with the platform – one of the walls is now complete and work is underway to complete the other half of the structure. We still have a considerable way to go!
Skipton Extension: We are all excited by the possibilities of running from Skipton through Embsay to Bolton Abbey! The track is already in situ (it’s used by the quarry trains which serve Swinden Quarry) and the platforms still exist at Skipton station. Embsay junction would need to be re-connected, re-development work at Skipton station undertaken, we’d need to acquire suitable rolling stock and meet some legislative requirements before this can happen. Help us by making a donation to the railway today!
Wheldale (an ‘Austerity’ steam locomotive at Bolton Abbey station) is now owned by Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, and a huge fundraising effort is underway to fund it’s restoration. The cost of this will be substantial – well in excess of £100,000 – and that’s using our own volunteers with free labour! Fortunately, we have a handful of dedicated people who are making great progress with the fundraising – you might encounter Mike & Malc on our trains raising money.
We’ve now raised in excess of £45,000 – enough money to make a start purchasing items and materials for the forthcoming restoration. Clearly we’ve still got a way to go, perhaps you’d like to help us get there?
