Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway

Steam & Stately Trains Services

The Stately Trains 6-wheelers near Skibeden. (c) Tim Warner Stately Trains (offering First Class travel) operate in addition to the core service on selected weekends in July and August, unless there is a special event. You can travel in carriages lovingly restored to their original Victorian magnificence from the award-winning Stately Trains fleet.

Trains will be hauled by steam engines from our collection (subject to availability). The normal service train will feature restored ex-BR Mk.I carriages (dating from the 1950s and 60s) from our fleet. Either the LNWR Directors' Saloon or the L&Y Directors' Saloon will provide First Class accommodation on the standard service set.

The First Class train will be made up from the three Victorian 6-wheeled carriages from the Stately Trains fleet, GER No.14, GNoSR No.34 and GER No.37, and operates in addition to the normal steam train service, as shown on the timetable below. These carriages were built to haul VIPs or First Class passengers, and one of these is reputed to have been the private saloon of Princess Alice.
