The signalbox at Bolton Abbey is the former Midland Railway 'box from
Guiseley which was moved to the railway when the station at Bolton Abbey was
rebuilt. (See right)

This photo shows the process of removal of the 'box from Guiseley, taken from
the end of the platform. Fortunately the 'box was of such a design that we
were able to separate teh top without cutting through any of the uprights
which is the was some have to be moved!

A view of the frame from above as it was first placed in the 'box. The levers
are very small as they do not need any force to operate - the signals and
points are operated electro-pneumatically.

The frame in the 'box looking more towards the station buildings (just visible
through the window). The compactness of this is clear!

The basic frame is now seen in its final position, ready for completion...

This time the whole unit is seen from the door of the 'box.

Although the 'box is not ready to be commissioned for quite some time, the
installation of the frame means that the Waiting Room on platform 2 at Embsay
can be brought back into use (this was where it had been stored since
acquisition). It may be possible to look around the 'box when it has been
completed until it is brought back into use.
